a Basket Life

A Story of My Path to becoming a Craftsman of Basketry
This is not a 'how-to' book

This book isn’t about how to make my baskets nor will it have any patterns. It is a timeline filled with information and stories of how I became a weaver, then a basketmaker, a teacher, and how I developed my own style of basketry.

Special section on the black ash tree and the emerald ash borer

For basketmakers, it is going to be a significant loss when the ash is gone due to the damage of the emerald ash borer. I’m processing as much as I can in between making baskets and teaching. Also in the book is a special section ‘Hunt for the last of the Black Ash.’

Apprenticeship to Shaker box making to going out on my own

Several chapters about where I started including when I went out on my own and made Shaker boxes. After a few years doing that I returned to making baskets and then went out on my own.

Not Shaker, not Nantucket. I had to give my baskets a name.

Not only my struggles, successes, and the work it takes. There’s the evolution of my Cottage baskets and the elements.
